Governance

BOLI is a movement of individuals, labs, networks, national and international organizations that share the vision of a publicly available reference system for identifying species.  It is primarily a grassroots, “bottom-up” initiative of like-minded researchers and organizations.  A few “top-down” efforts have been started, but these are aimed primarily at launching and coordinating activities.  The two largest such efforts are the Consortium for the Barcode of Life (CBOL) and the Canadian Barcode of Life Network (BOLNET).
